The Illua Igloo Village - Ski Tour in Muddus
Available from 14th of February - 20th of March. Groups of 3 to 6 people.
On this ski tour, we travel on traditional wooden cross country skis (handmade in Jokkmokk), over the deep powdery snow. We will ski through the Southern parts of Muddus National Park on this tour and travel between 5 and 12 kilometres per day. Most of the skiing will be on virgin snow and the distance travelled each day will depend on the depth of the snow and the weather conditions. As all members of the group will travel with their own rucksacks, this will be taken into account as well
Muddus is ‘untouched’ and a huge ancient pine forest. Very few people are able to experience the amount of silence and calmness that Muddas offers within their normal daily lives. With this in mind, the speed of each tour is set at a pace that is pleasant for all the group members. One of the great phenomena of skiing in deep snow is the exhilarating contrast between the peace your environment brings to you and the demand placed on your body by the physical effort.
Night time tours are possible depending on the availability and brightness of the moonlight. We may even experience skiing under the Northern Lights - if we are lucky. The coldness of the winter days must be taken into account, although at the same time, very cold days produce incredible daylight and starlit nights. If we are fortunate, we may see lots of animal tracks along the way. The tracks in the snow give us a glimpse of ‘life in the forest’, which becomes part of our adventure….
Day 1 Arrive by train to Murjek from Stockholm, follwed by a bus jouney from Murjek to Jokkmokk (not included in the price). Transfer from Jokkmokk to the Igloo Village in Skabram for your overnight stay in a cabin. Try out your skis and then a welcome dinner.
Day 2-5 Ski tour in Muddus. Accommodation is in small wooden cabins. On the evening of day 5 we enjoy a sauna and relax in the Hotel Jokkmokk after our transfer there.
Day 6 Breakfast and then a visit to the Sami museum and some time to buy souvenirs in Jokkmokk. Later in the day a transfer to the Igloo village by Skis (and taxi), followed by an overnight stay in an igloo.
Day 7 Breakfast in the Igloo Village followed by a dog sled trip and lunch cooked over an open fire. (Train back to Stockholm in the evening, or continue your holiday in Sweden).
Ski Tour in Muddus
Option 1 - Price: Swedish Kr 14,995 per person in the Hotel Jokkmokk day 5.
Option 2 - Price: Swedish Kr 14,200 per person in Skabram / wooden cabins with sauna day 5.
Price includes: Local trained and experienced guide(s), all local transport (from Jokkmokk to Skabram, Skabram – Skaite (Muddus) and back to the Hotel in Jokkmokk, Hotel Jokkmokk to Skabram, Igloo Village to Jokkmokk, accommodation - 4 nights in shared cabins at Skabram and Muddus, 1 night at the Hotel Jokkmokk and the last night in the Igloo Village staying in an igloo, dog sledding (3 hour drive your own sled), ski equipment, safety equipment, all meals from lunch (in the forest) on the day of arrival, to lunch at Ajtte (Sami museum) on the day of departure, visit to the Sami museum.
Price Excludes: Transport to and from Jokkmokk and any alcoholic beverages.
Difficulty level: A ‘hard tour’, but not extreme. You will need more than a good general level of physical fitness.
