Skiing and Snowshoeing Across Sarek

Dates: 3rd to 22nd of March & 9th to 19th of April. Groups of 4 to 12 people.
Day 1 Our guides meet you at Luleå airport or Murjek train station depending which way you have chosen to travel to Swedish Lapland. We travel to Jokkmokk by minibus or car where we spend the first night at the Skabram log cabins close to the beautiful forest and Skabram lake.
Day 2 After breakfast, we continue our journey by minibus to the mountain village of Ritsem. The drive to the last wilderness in Europe takes between 2 and 3 hours. We have lunch before we travel by snowmobile across the huge Akkajaure lake and then on to Lake Kutjaure. From this point, we start skiing. The cabin in Kisuris is today’s destination and this cabin is the last we will see before arriving in Aktse in about five days time.
Day 3 Breakfast and then we set off on the great odyssey across Sarek. Today we are going to Routhesvárárasj, a distance of 16 kilometres. When we reach our destination, we set up camp, cook our evening meal and prepare for the night with double layered floor mats and winter sleeping bags.
Day 4 Our expedition continues in an easterly direction through Routhesvagge and down to the cabin in Mikka. We take a Lapland lunch and some additional breaks along the way. The cabin in Mikka is where we set up camp tonight. The cabin itself is locked and reserved for official science groups only, but there is a useful emergency phone on the exterior of the building. The biggest glacier in Sarek and the origin of the cabins name, Mikka Jeg?a, is located just above the valley.
Day 5 The Skarja massif to the south of us is commonly called the heart of Sarek. It is located almost in the middle of the national park. Several valleys join each other here and this is also where the Rapa River starts and where we begin our next leg following the river eastwards. During the day we will pass the wide Peilar-plateau and later pass beneath Låddebákte. When we reach Skårki we set up camp for the night.
Day 6 We are in the middle of the magnificent Rapa Delta, a place where you can feel the enormity of the Lapland wilderness. This place is also known as Predator Territory and is home to many creatures including wolverine, lynx and bear. If we look carefully, we will probably see some evidence of these animals having walked the area before us and we may even be lucky enough to see the animals themselves. We then head for the Luleå Spádnek. At the end of the delta, we can see our campsite for the night.
Day 7 If the weather is good today, we head for the Pårte plateau and set up camp early. We then take a tour towards the peaks in the Pårte mountain region.
Day 8 Today is the last day before we reach the Pårte homestead at the outskirts of Sarek. In the evening we settle into the comfort of the cabins, congratulate ourselves and discuss the events of the last week.
Day 9 From Pårte, we travel by ski’s for 15 km to the Kvikkjokk mountain village. We continue from here by minibus to Jokkmokk and the Sami Homestead. The Sami Homestead is a very comfortable, atmospheric inn, full of Sámi culture and character. Tonight’s dinner consists of a number of Sami specialties, all with the taste and ingredients of Swedish Lapland. After dinner, we finish the evening by watching a photo slide show from our tour across Sarek.
Day 10 It may be possible to spend a few hours in Jokkmokk town before we travel to Lulea airport for your departure.
