Skiing in Muddus from The Solberget Reindeer Retreat
Available from 13th of February - 19th of February. Groups of 3 to 8 people.
Days 1-2 The first couple of days are spent at the retreat where we train with the cross country skis, relax in the sauna at the end of each day and prepare for our adventure.
Days 3-6 After the training, we start the 4-day ski-tour through Muddus National Park (part of the UNESCO World Heritage LAPONIA Region). We pass through the untouched forests of the southern side of the National Park travelling on our traditional wooden cross country skis. In this part of the National Park we will almost certainty find many animal tracks and if we are lucky, we may see one or two of the animals themselves.
We will carry our belongings in backpacks and we stay in basic forest cabins – if you are interested you can build your own bivouac in the snow. We marvel at the incredible, unspoilt natural environment of this National Park and soak up the peace and quiet of this very special place. If the moon is bright enough, we will try to take a night-tour for a couple of hours.
Day 6 Back at the retreat we warm up in the traditional wood fired sauna and discuss theprevious few days. In the evening, an old Sami man will visit you and tell you about his life as a traditional reindeer-herder. He will share some of the experiences of his extordinary life and you will have the opportunity to get a glimpse into the Sami world and reindeer herding first hand. If you would like to take a reindeer sleigh ride after we are back at the retreat – a very special experience awaits you.
Skiing in Muddus from The Retreat - Price: Swedish Kr 10,800 per person
Price includes: Pick-up at the train-station in Nattavaara, Ski equipment and Maps of the area, Guided tour of the village ( Day 1 at 2am), Reindeer feeding, Use of the sauna, Full board with local produce and typical specialities of the region (organic food included), 3 nights accommodation in uniquely styled rooms (usually shared rooms, doubles are an additional 100kr per person per night) at The Retreat, 3 nights in a basic forest cabin when on the Muddus ski-tour, 1 guided local ski tour (2 hour tour), Sleigh Ride with reindeer (approx. 1.5 hours), 4-day ski tour in Muddus National Park (part of the UNESCO World Heritage Laponia region),
Price excludes: Transport to and from Nattavaara and any alcoholic beverages.
Please Note: Please read about the retreat and its facilities to make sure your are aware of the standard of accommodation and the facilities of The Retreat. The tour starts at 2pm on the first day and ends on the final day at 3pm. The rooms are available from 2pm on the first day until 1pm on the last day.
