Winter Wonder and Northern Lights 5 day Photography Course

March to April - Groups of 3 to 8 People.

On arrival you have a welcome drink and meal with time to look at course participants’ camera equipment and to allow Patricia to see what knowledge you have and what instruction you may need to develop your skills. During the evening you will see a slide show of photographs from the areas you will visit during the course. Also this will be a chance to ask any questions you may have but of course each evening during and after dinner you will discuss the day’s travels and experiences.

Porjus lies at the gateway to Laponia, Europe’s last wilderness. You will take a journey up to Ritsem viewing and photographing the mountain massive of Sarek with imposing mountain landscape and glaciers. During the journey there are opportunities to photograph ‘blue ice walls’ and natural ice sculptures on the frozen rivers. Due to the vastness of the landscape, animal photography is not part of this course, but hopefully you will get close to the local bird life giving you an opportunity to take some great bird photographs as well as seeing the local reindeer and their Sami owners.

One day is spent at the Ice Hotel in Kiruna. Included is also a dog sledding trip and time to visit the Sami museum in Jokkmokk. A whole day with a local studio photographer is included during the course involving a session with printing tips on best types of paper for prints, mounting and framing finished prints.

During these 5 days there is always the possibility for photographing the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis). Patricia has spent 14 years photographing the Northern Lights and will be available every evening to any course delegates interested in spending some time to gain tips and help on photographing the Northern Lights. To have the best possible light you may start early in the morning!!!!

Tuition and skills that you will learn: Basic camera control, depth of field, lighting, lens choice, metering, composition, and much more.....

Most of this will be taught in a practical setting rather than abstractly in a class room.
