About Arctic Light Photographic Courses

Photographic courses for photographers.

Our photographic courses are based in Swedish Lapland from the riverside Porjus home and Photo Gallery of Patricia Cowern. Patricia was recommended by Sunday Times Travel Photography expert "Doug McKinlay"  in his article “The best travel photography holidays” in 2007 (excerpt below).

"The Arctic Colors Gallery is run by renowned landscape and Northern Lights photographer, Patricia Cowern. Operating from the small Swedish town of Porjus, 40 miles north of the Arctic Circle, Patricia hosts small groups of photographers - beginners as well as advanced - who would like to experience some of nature’s most contradictory moods. September brings in the autumn and this is when Patricia guides and tutors photographers in the fine art of autumn colour images, often concentrating on something as simple as the intricacies of a single dying leaf.

As winter approaches and the nights get longer, clearer, and colder, her attention turns to the Aurora Borealis, nature’s magnificent light show. With the end of winter it’s time to look at what the Midnight Sun can offer. Porjus is the gateway to the World Heritage site of Laponia – often referred to as Europe’s last wilderness.

This area contains four of Sweden’s National Parks, encompassing a diverse terrain of mountains, lakes, marshes and ancient forests. With more than ten years experience living here, Patricia knows every possible vantage point and the time of day to take that very special shot. She is dedicated to helping her guests get the most out of their Arctic travels".
